It’s Adelaide Fringe Festival time which means the city of churches is ready to come alive with theatrical street parades, eclectic musical performances, and of course the beloved Garden of Unearthly Delights. With so many different acts to choose from, the last thing you want to be doing is worrying about where to stay.
Fortunately, we’ve done the hard work for you and found some of Adelaide’s best hotels which are all within easy reach of the Fringe action. Looks like it’s time to get festive!
A boutique hotel bringing a touch of elegance to downtown Adelaide, the Mayfair is located in a beautifully restored listed building on King William Street, just minutes from the Adelaide Festival Theatre. From cocktails on the balcony or fine dining in the Mayflower restaurant, the hotel offers the best in luxury at every turn.
On level 13 is the newly opened Hennessy rooftop bar bringing a relaxed vibe, plus live music and DJs on selected nights. The hotel has a strong sustainability ethos; the furniture is custom made for the Mayfair by local craftsmen and the food and wine are primarily sourced from South Australian growers and producers.
So unique it’s won awards for it! If you’re coming to Adelaide for the Fringe, you may as well celebrate with a stay in this über-artistic hotel! All 46 studio rooms are individually decorated by different South Australian artists, on the theme of ‘Creativity and Creation’. The interpretations are broad and the resulting interiors reflect anything from cityscapes to anemones, but they are all beautiful.
The hotel itself is based in North Adelaide, next to the Adelaide Botanic Gardens and within easy walking distance of the Adelaide CBD. It stands out from the crowd with a colourful mural painted on the façade, a beacon for artists and art lovers for miles around.
Majestic Roof Garden Hotel
This place is so close to the Garden of Unearthly Delights, you will almost be able to hear all the festivities from the comfort of your own plush king-size bed. A luxury hotel with a great location, the Majestic Roof Garden Hotel is just around the corner from the bars and restaurants of Rundle Street. The rooms are Japanese themed, with luxurious bathrooms, a South Australian focused mini-bar, and perhaps the greatest gift of any hotel, free Wi-Fi for all.
The stunning rooftop also has two function rooms, perfect for small weddings or events, with floor to ceiling windows and panoramic views over beautiful Adelaide.
Situated smack bang in the middle of the Adelaide CBD, you can’t really get much more convenient than The Oaks Embassy. The most beautiful thing about this hotel is getting your own space. Each apartment includes kitchen and laundry facilities, a writing desk and high-speed broadband.
The hotel itself includes a spa, gym and indoor heated lap-pool, so you can unwind at the end of the day by getting in a few lengths. This place is truly perfect for a Fringe weekend away in which having your own space and kitchen are both a huge plus before your night on the town.
Clarion Hotel Soho
Without a doubt the pool at the Clarion steals the show. Located on the fifth floor, the heated rooftop pool enjoys views over Adelaide and the open roof makes it perfect for some twilight stargazing. Each of the rooms at the Clarion bear special features and all include king-size beds, modern bathrooms and extras such as an iPod dock.
The Corner suite is our favourite with a balcony opening up to views over the streets of Adelaide, closely seconded by the Spa Suite, with its large corner bath-tub. Positioned in the buzzing East End of Adelaide, this is the kind of hotel that packs a punch location wise.
Adina Apartment Hotel Adelaide Treasury
Live like a local in the Adina Apartment Hotel Adelaide Treasury. Fully-furbished and well-appointed apartments in the middle of Adelaide’s buzzing CBD, you’ll find they’re perfect for your Fringe Festival vacay.
The features of this hotel that really add to the ambiance include the landscaped courtyard complete with fountain, indoor heated swimming pool and spa, and the artfully exposed stonework making a feature of the building’s former history as the town treasury.
Rundle Mall is arguably Adelaide’s downtown, and if you’re the type of traveller who likes to be in the thick of it all, you’ll be pleased to know Hotel Richmond is positioned directly on the mall. After witnessing a stellar performance in the Garden of Unearthly Delights, walk a short ten minutes to your luxurious room and retreat for the night in style. The 30 individually styled rooms blend modern furnishings with soft fabrics and cushions to create a truly eclectic feel.
To kick start your stay, head to super swish in-house First Bar and Restaurant, which features a long Calcutta marble bar, wire-ball chandeliers, and of course an extensive cocktail menu to put you in the festive spirit.
An eclectic mix of old-world charm and modern amenities, the Adabco hotel is nestled in leafy East Adelaide in a heritage listed building featuring a Venetian Gothic Façade. The personal touches to the hotel add a relaxed atmosphere with a comfortable lounge area for guests alongside many nooks for some quiet reading or relaxing after your festive Fringe antics.
Another feature of the hotel are the two state-of-the-art communal kitchens available to all those wanting to whip up their own meals, or simply make a hot chocolate in the evenings. Breakfast is also complimentary and the hotel is just a 15-minute walk from downtown Adelaide and Fringe central.
